Well hello there everybody!
First of all, I want to wish a very happy Thanksgiving to everyone. I feel incredibly blessed and I want to thank everyone for all the support of my music over the years. I hope everyone has a wonderful time this Thanksgiving and that we all can appreciate what we have been given. Here are some great tunes to accompany your holiday: Five tracks that I have been diggin. Florence has a new album "Ceremonials" and it is pretty rockin. She creates such an awesome sound. Only If For A Night: Florence and the Machine If I Had a Gun: Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds…awesome song, great musician. Rest of the album is sounding really good as well. How Come You Never Go There: Feist How great is Feist? Yea, pretty great. I mean come on. Check out her whole new album "Metals". Soul Survivor: Hargo Just caught these guys at a local gig in North County San Diego. They put on a great show and have a great sound. Throw in the fact that they have a solid EP and you’ve got a winning combination. Looking forward to catching these guys around again. Check em out! NEW MUTEMATH ALBUM: The whole thing. It’s called Odd Soul and it’s got a dazzling amount of that fantastic mutemath energy with some killer grooves and beautiful melodies.

We have made our way past the destruction of the original room, past running cables through the walls, past the blood, sweat, and tears of hanging mass loaded vinyl on the existing walls, past the acoustical caulk, past the acoustical taping, and now, past the putty, past the staples, triumphantly entering into the green glue and the Quietrock soundproof drywall phase. Was that a run-on sentence? Probably, but no matter. The studio is on it's way to becoming a finished masterpiece. ONE WALL DOWN. This past weekend the "House Band of San Diego", Switchfoot performed at Petco Park Stadium after a Padres game. It was a great show as usual from those guys, who threw in a Tom Petty cover as well as sang "take me out to the ball game". Anyway, they decided to release their upcoming album, Vice Verses, at the game a few days before it's official release. I was able to get my hands on a copy signed by the band, which were floating around at the beginning of the game. Pretty cool hometown appreciation on their part. Switchfoot has a lot of impact on the community and have used their annual Bro-Am to raise money for the organization Stand Up for Kids. Check out the organization and the ways it is helping the homeless children in San Diego and check out the new album from Switchfoot, Dark Horses is the first single...and its pretty rockin. You can check it out here: Thanks for the early CD!
Check out: Stand Up For Kids This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to speak at a Kiwanis club meeting in Ramona, CA about the changing state of the music industry, the role of technology, and what it all means for musicians independently pursuing opportunities to further their careers. I want to extend a big thank you to the club for a great morning of music and conversation. I am always excited to meet others excited about music! One member has one of the biggest harmonica collections in the world, another has a son touring europe, some mentioned they heard about the changing state of the music industry from the last major concert they went to! Others were members of bands in the past, some are still active musicians, while others just love music and expressed their interest in learning how the art and industry is transforming. I had a great time! Great to meet everyone! Please check out their website and support them in your locality if you can. Photos of the event and small article can be found here:
http://kiwanisramonaca.org/ramonakiwanisca_017.htm Talk to you all soon! Well, it's not exactly weekly, but this happens to be a week where I have so much new stuff I am listening to, I think my brain is going to explode. Let's just get right into it:
1. Foster the People: Whole album is awesome but one of my favorites is Helena Beat 2. New Incubus Album: If Not Now, When: Check out this cool live version of Adolescents 3. Florence and the Machine: New song "What the Water Gave Me" 4. Mute Math: New song off of their upcoming album "Odd Soul" song called Allies 5. New Red Hot Chili Peppers Album! Just go listen to the whole thing. As many of you know, I enjoy surfing. In fact I enjoy it very much. But even if you do not enjoy it, I thought you might care to look at this video of surfers interacting with nature in a way that is simply incredible. This is one of the biggest and scariest tubes in the world. More contest info can be found here: Hey Everyone, There's been lots going on here the past few months. New songwriting, shows at rock climbing gyms, outdoor adventures, and good times with friends and family. Here is a little taste of the fun. To answer your questions about the video. Yes, I backpacked a guitar down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Yes, and back up to the top. Yes, it was worth it. The video is sped up to make me sound like the chipmunks. Why? Well I guess I thought it was much funnier that way. If it's your birthday, this song is dedicated to you. :) Talk to you soon! Thanks to everyone who made it out to the Vital Climbing Show! Heard lots of people had a good time, I know I had a lot of fun. Tons of good food, friends, and climbing. The vibe and crew at Vital are always good for that. Hope to see you all at the next event!
So have you heard of these new services? I think they are pretty sweet. I am going to try them out for a bit. What do you think of them? What do you think it might do to the life of the ipod? Check them out:
Amazon Cloud Music Beta from Google So as we were in the process of remixing the Balance Acoustic EP (which I know is long overdue, I apologize for the delay, I was just not totally happy with some elements of the first versions) my buddy Aaron mentioned that he wanted to turn his upstairs music room into a studio. But he wants to really do the best he can with what he's got. So, we are embarking on a project to build a studio that will be the real deal. We are in the process of sound-proofing the room now, hanging mass loaded vinyl (which you can see below) before we put in the acoustically insulated drywall. It's a big job but it's exciting. Keep checking back for updates as the project rolls along! Check out some of the before photos.
