Tonight was a premier of Soul Surfer in Encinitas with Walking on Water. Really great event, awesome movie. The true story about professional surfer Bethany Hamilton and her amazing persistence to continue to surf after losing her arm in a shark attack is an amazing thing to watch. If you ever are in need of an uplifting source of inspiration, check out the film. The movie portrays her faith strongly and the incredible struggle that goes on inside of the Christian mind of a young girl. And to top it off, the surfing footage makes you want to get right out there in the water. If you are interested...check it out! http://www.soulsurfer.com/

Wow. The Dominican Republic trip exceeded expectations and was an incredible experience. The Christian Surfers' sponsored contest was a huge success with fun waves and an incredible turnout. Great to meet a bunch of fellow Christian Surfers members from Florida chapters as well as get involved with the local community in the Sosua and Cabarete areas of the DR. Had the chance to play with the local worship band at Dustin Miller's home church. They really rocked and we had the chance to play for a while after the service was over. Guitar lessons, surf lessons, baseball, and other antics made up most of the time spent with the local children and orphans of the community. Beach clean-ups, events, and help at a local medical clinic were also part of the trip. In the days off, we ventured throughout the north coast of the island and explored some pretty incredible beaches, scenery, food, and culture. Great times with wonderful new friends in an incredible community! I am extremely thankful for the opportunity. Check out photos on the facebook page soon. There are a few below for a preview!
Headed to the Dominican Republic this week to help out with a Christian Surfers contest and local community support. There is also the opportunity to work with a local music program and hopefully get some surfing in myself! I am really excited for the trip, hoping it will be a wonderful experience with the community. Looking forward to meeting up with buddy Dustin Miller and company. Will have lots to share upon returning. In the meantime, check out Dustin's mission and blog:

So I have been on a big kick lately, listening to the album "Lungs" from Florence and The Machine. What an awesome album. Here is a link to one of my favorite songs from the album, "Cosmic Love". Also getting into the Brandon Boyd solo effort, The Wild Trapeze and the new single "Runaway Train". Other solo efforts from Killers front man Brandon Flowers include the song "Crossfire". I like that tune as well. Let's see, other great stuff is the new Ray Lamontagne album, although I haven't listened to it through yet, it sounds pretty solid. More updates to come soon, including *gasp* the Balance EP released on itunes. For now, check some pictures from the last rock climbing session at Mount Woodson, my buddy Scott doing some climbing, and a sunset surf session at campgrounds in Carlsbad.
Last weekend was the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, CA. It was a huge event, with skateboarding, bmx, surfing, live music, and tons of industry stores, reps, booths, you name it. It was a great time. I volunteered with the Christian Surfers group who was helping many different organizations do their thing. The Life Rolls On foundation was there, as well as the Living the Dream Foundation. Both of them are incredible groups doing great things for those with disabilities and cystic fibrosis. Action sports plays such a great role in the lifestyles of those involved with the organization. Surfing's positive effects on cystic fibrosis have been translated into medical treatments used by all who suffer from it! Check this out.
"Haager also was living proof that surfing helped CF patients breathe easier. Doctors determined that inhaling saltwater mist had a powerful effect on rehydrating the lining of the lungs and allowed CF patients to more easily eliminate bacteria-contaminated mucus. This discovery led researchers to develop a hypertonic saline solution, which CF patients around the world now inhale, mimicking a “surf session,” on a daily basis. The Pipeline events were created to herald this discovery." Overall, it was a great experience. Check out some photos below of Rob Machado getting out of the water, an individual from Life Rolls On headed out for a surf, and Tom Curren perfoming at the Drifter movie premier. Just went to see Switchfoot last night.. Great show, great songs. Singer Jon Foreman and company put on a great show. He mentioned what really fired him up were singing out songs of love and hope. I really like their vibe, their messages, and their energy. This weekend they are hosting their annual Bro-Am. If you are in the southern California area check it out for sure! Surf competition in the morning, concerts throughout the day from a bunch of acts. All for charity. Check it out!
